
LSU’s basketball season came to an early end and we really weren’t hoping for that but now, we can focus wholeheartedly on baseball.
Even though LSU has many types of athletic teams, we here at Tigers Town will usually only cover football, baseball, and basketball because there just isn’t enough time in the day to get to every sport.
On Tuesday night and Wednesday night, the Tigers faced Harvard in Alex Box Stadium in Baton Rouge.
On Tuesday night, the Tigers improved to 18-5 on a 4-3 win over 2-12 Harvard. The baseball team is now ranked at #2. Unfortunately, I just didn’t see the intensity and the effort that we need to have. I thought Harvard played very inspired, and give credit to their kids. They came out and played a little harder than we did, but somehow we won the game,” LSU baseball coach Paul Mainieri said after the game. Freshman third baseman Tyler Hanover drove in two runs in the game.
Wednesday night’s game was less of a nailbighter for the Tigers than the previous night’s game had been. Freshman Mikie Mahtook knocked a homer over the fence as the Tigers whipped Harvard with a final score of 10-2. The win brought the Tigers overall record to 19-5 and brought Harvard’s record to 2-13.
The Tigers open up another SEC series this weekend when the #11 Ole Miss Rebels come to town to play the Purple and Gold in Alex Box Stadium. Friday’s game begins at 7 PM.
The Tigers took last week’s weekend SEC series against South Carolina by winning 2 out of 3 games.

The teams meet for the SEC series finale in a winner take all match at 12:30 pm on Sunday.

LSU’s run in the NCAA tournament ended after the Tigers lost to North Carolina after they lost to the Tar Heels with a final score of 84-70. LSU upset Butler on Thursday with a final score of 75-71.

LSU catcher Micah Gibbs (above) drove in the game winning run on a RBI single in the ninth inning giving the 5th ranked LSU baseball team over the Northwestern State Demons with a final score of 2-1.
The game was played at Alex Box Stadium in Baton Rouge.
LSU’s overall record now stands at 14-4 with the SEC play record now standing at 2-1 after a weekend series against Kentucky in Baton Rouge.

It’s been a busy weekend in LSU sports, and first we’ll visit the basketball realm. On Saturday, the Mississippi State Bulldogs eliminated head coach Trent Johnson (above) and the LSU men’s basketball team from the SEC tournament in Tampa, Florida. The Bulldogs beat the Tigers with a final score of 67-57. LSU’s leading scorer was Tasmin Mitchell who put up 15 on the board for the Fighting Tigers.
On Thursday, the eighth seeded Tigers will ninth seeded Butler in Greensboro, North Carolina with tip off scheduled for 11:20 AM in the NCAA National Championship Tournament.

In baseball news, the #5 ranked LSU baseball team beat Kentucky on Friday night and then played the Wildcats in two seven inning games on Sunday with the first game beginning at 10 AM after Saturday’s game was rained out. The Wildcats took the first game with a final score of 5-2 and the Tigers won the second game with a final score of 3-1 giving LSU the SEC play opening series.
LSU pitcher Louis Coleman (above) was named the SEC Pitcher of the Week after he won two games with a 0.93 ERA in 9.2 innings, allowing just one run on five hits with no walks and 11 strikeouts.
The Tigers face Northwestern State at Alex Box Stadium on Tuesday night at 6:30 PM.

The second game of a three game SEC play opening series between LSU and Kentucky was rained out today at Alex Box Stadium in Baton Rouge. Instead, two games will be played between the two teams tomorrow with the first game beginning at 10 AM and the second game beginning 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game.

To be admitted to the first game, fans must bring their Saturday game ticket. Fans wishing to attend the second game must bring their Sunday game ticket. The stadium will be cleared after the first game is over.

On Friday, the LSU Fighting Tigers beat the University of Kentucky in two different sports, baseball as well as men’s basketball. In the hoops world, Marcus Thornton, the SEC Player of the Year, scored 21 points as #20 LSU beat LSU with a final score of 67-58. LSU advances to the semifinals of the Southeastern Conference tournament and most likely ended the Wildcats’ streak of NCAA appearances at 17.
LSU will play the Mississippi State Bulldogs for a trip to the SEC Tournament Finals. The last time Mississippi State and LSU met, first place in the overall SEC standings was on the line. LSU has beaten the Bulldogs twice this season already.

In the baseball realm, third baseman Tyler Hanover hit a homer and drove in three runs which lead the Tigers baseball team over the Kentucky Wildcats with a final score of 5-3. LSU’s overall record now stands at 12-3, this game was the first of a weekend series which opened SEC baseball play for the Tigers.
The series will continue today as the Tigers face the Wildcats at Alex Box Stadium starting at 3 PM. Sunday’s game will begin at 1 PM.

The LSU baseball team fell from being ranked at #1 in the nation to the #3 spot. Their record now stands at 11-3 overall with the SEC games starting this weekend when the Kentucky Wildcats come to Baton Rouge to play the Purple and Gold at Alex Box Stadium. The Tigers have lost to Illinois twice and Louisiana-Lafayette once which was their most recent lost.
On Tuesday night, the Tigers came out and rolled over Southeastern Louisiana at Alumni Field with a final score of 16-5. The victory was LSU’s eighth straight in Hammond, a streak that began in 1990. The Tigers broke open the close game after scoring six runs in the fourth inning. Centerfielder Leon Landry (above), first baseman Sean Ochinko, and leftfielder Jared Mitchell all hit homeruns in the game. Landry leads the Tigers in homeruns hit this season.

What looked to be a miracle turned into a major disappointment as the Tigers fell to the Louisiana-Lafeyette Ragin’ Cajuns at Alex Box Stadium on a rainy Wednesday night. The third-ranked Tigers were down 8-1 in the fourth inning after two three-run homers by Louisiana-Lafayette but the Tigers clawed back to within two runs at 9-7 but Louisiana-Lafayette first baseman Scott Hawkins (left) blasted a solo homer to give the Cajuns a 10-9 win.
The Tigers face Kentucky to begin SEC play at Alex Box for a weekend series beginning Friday night at 7 PM. Saturday’s game begins at 3 PM while Sunday’s game begins at 1 PM.
